250th planning on hold
Planning for the town’s sestercentennial next year has been impacted by the pandemic.
Selectmen’s Assistant Krystal Dyer said she hasn’t “heard any mention” lately of the 250th birthday celebration.
“At this time, I have no information. Due to COVID-19 everything was put on hold,” Dyer said this week.
A previously announced contest to select a logo for the festival was brought to a halt by the pandemic, Recreation Director Nicole Welch said.
Buxton was incorporated as a town on July 14, 1772. It was first known as Narragansett No. 1, a land grant authorized by
the General Court of Massachusetts in 1728 to soldiers who fought against Native Americans in King Philips War 1675-1678. The soldiers’ heirs also were eligible for the land.

The Maine CDC reports 270 probable and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Buxton through Feb. 14.
