STORRS, Conn. — Ryan Tverberg’s power-play goal with 2:16 remaining broke a 2-2 tie and lifted Connecticut to a 4-2 win over Maine in a Hockey East game Saturday.
Maine (3-10-1) erased a two-goal deficit when Adam Dawe struck for a pair of power-play goals in the last two minutes of the second period, tying the game with just .4 seconds left.
Carter Berger and Adam Karashik also scored for UConn (9-10-2), and Marc Gatcomb got an empty-netter in the final second.
Victor Ostman made 43 saves for Maine.
UMASS DARTMOUTH 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Power-play goals by Jimmy Pelton and Dillon Radin sparked a third-period rally by the Corsairs (1-0) in a win over the Huskies (0-1) in Gorham.
USM led 2-1 after two periods, thanks to goals by Matt Fuller and Antoine Gignac in the second period.
Pelton tied it with 11:12 remaining, Radin got the go-ahead goal with 5:35 left, and Kai Kapossy added a late unassisted goal.
Trevor Cear scored a power-play goal in the first period for the Corsairs.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
UMAINE-FARMINGTON 90, SOUTHERN MAINE 64: Terion Moss dropped in 22 points as the Beavers (2-0) earned a win over the Huskies (2-1) in Farmington.
Kyle Donlin and Nathan Violette each scored 18 points for UMF. Jack Kane added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Keenan Hendricks led USM with 11 points. Jason Lombard had 10 points, and Cody Hawes got nine points and nine rebounds off the bench.
UMAINE-AUGUSTA 68, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 56: The Moose (2-0) took control with a 12-2 run late in the second half to beat the Nor’easters (0-3) Biddeford.
Maurice Hodge Jr. led UMaine-Augusta with 18 points. The Moose got 10 points apiece from Elijah Smith, Eric Crawford and Sam Martin.
Ryan Lin and Ric Castillo each scored nine points for UNE.
(17) KANSAS 71, (2) BAYLOR 58: David McCormack bruised his way to 20 points, Marcus Garrett added 14 on his senior night, and the Jayhawks (18-8, 12-6 Big 12) knocked off the Bears (18-1, 11-1) in Lawrence, Kansas.
(3) MICHIGAN 73, INDIANA 57: Franz Wagner matched his season high with 21 points and Isaiah Livers added 16 points and 10 rebounds to help the Wolverines (18-1, 13-1 Big Ten) beat the Hoosiers (12-12, 7-10) in Bloomington, Indiana.
(5) ILLINOIS 74, WISCONSIN 69: Kofi Cockburn scored 19 points and the Illini (18-6, 15-4 Big Ten) held off the Badgers (16-9, 10-8 Big Ten) in Madison, Wisconsin.
(6) ALABAMA 64, MISSISSIPPI STATE 59: Jaden Shackleford scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half, and the visiting Crimson Tide (19-6, 14-2 SEC) clinched their first Southeastern Conference regular-season championship since 2002.
OKLAHOMA STATE 94, (7) OKLAHOMA 90: Freshman star Cade Cunningham scored 10 of his season-high 40 points in overtime, and the visiting Cowboys (16-6, 9-6 Big 12) defeated the Sooners (15-7, 8-7) in overtime.
(10) WEST VIRGINIA 65, KANSAS STATE 43: The Mountaineers (17-6, 10-4 Big 12), led by Sean McNeil with 16 points, used two big second-half runs to beat the visiting Wildcats (7-19, 3-14).
NORTH CAROLINA 78, (11) FLORIDA STATE 70: Freshman Walker Kessler scored a season-high 20 points to help the Tar Heels (15-8, 9-5 ACC) upset the visiting Seminoles (14-4, 10-3), giving Coach Roy Williams his 900th career victory.
XAVIER 77, (13) CREIGHTON 69: Paul Scruggs scored 23 points and Zach Freemantle added 17, helping the Musketeers (13-5, 6-5 Big East) defeat the Bluejays (17-6, 13-5) in Cincinnati.
(18) TEXAS TECH 68, (14) TEXAS 59: Mac McClung had 16 points and the Red Raiders (15-8, 7-7 Big 12) snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Longhorns (14-7, 8-6) in Lubbock, Texas.
(16) VIRGINIA TECH 84, WAKE FOREST 46: Keve Aluma scored 23 points, and the Hokies (15-5, 9-4 ACC) pounded the Demon Deacons (6-13, 3-13) in Blacksburg, Virginia.
UTAH 71, (19) USC 61: Alphonso Plummer scored 19 points, Timmy Allen added 15 points and eight assists, and the Utes (10-11, 7-10 Pac-12) upset the Trojans (19-6, 13-5) in Salt Lake City.
(20) ARKANSAS 83, LSU 75: Justin Smith had 19 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Razorbacks (19-5, 11-4 SEC) defeat the Tigers (14-8, 9-6) in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
(21) LOYOLA CHICAGO 65, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 58: Cameron Krutwig had 20 points and the Ramblers (21-4, 16-2 in the Missouri Valley) scored the last eight points in overtime to beat the Salukis (11-13, 5-13) in Chicago.
(24) SAN DIEGO STATE 62, BOISE STATE 58: Matt Mitchell hit two free throws with 3.3 seconds left and fellow senior Jordan Schakel made four free throws in the final 8.7 seconds as the Aztecs (19-4, 13-3 Mountain West) held off the Broncos (18-6, 14-5) in San Diego.
AUBURN 77, (25) TENNESSEE 72: Allen Flanigan scored a season-high 23 points to lead the Tigers (12-13, 6-10 SEC) past the visiting Volunteers (16-7, 9-7).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UNE 68, SOUTHERN MAINE 62: Jordyn Franzen scored 22 points and Juliana Tracey added 20 to lead the Nor’easters (1-0) to a win over the Huskies (0-3) in Biddeford.
Franzen also recorded 12 rebounds and five assists. Faith Connors chipped in with 15 points.
USM was led by Kristen Curley with 13 points and Amy Fleming with 12.
(11) INDIANA 87, (15) OHIO STATE 75: Grace Berger scored 20 points, Nicole Cardano-Hillary had a double-double and the Hoosiers (16-5, 14-2 Big Ten) ended a 15-game losing streak to the Buckeyes (13-6, 9-6), who hadn’t lost to Indiana at home since 2002.
In an ugly and foul-marred fourth quarter, the Hoosiers erased a nine-point deficit and outscored the Buckeyes 21-3 over the last five minutes. Indiana was 20 of 27 from the foul line in the last 10 minutes as Ohio State had 15 fouls, including a technical, and three players fouled out.
Mackenzie Holmes of Gorham scored 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting for the Hoosiers.
(1) UCONN 97, BUTLER 68: Aailyah Edwards had 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Paige Bueckers added 20 points and 14 assists as the Huskies (20-1, 17-0 Big East) routed the Bulldogs (2-16, 2-15) in Indianapolis.
(7) BAYLOR 85, KANSAS STATE 49: Queen Egbo scored 19 points and the Bears (19-2, 14-1 Big 12) clinched their 11th straight regular-season conference title with a win over the Wildcats (7-15, 2-13) in Waco, Texas.
HOUSTON 67, (13) SOUTH FLORIDA 49: Laila Blair led a balanced attack with 15 points and the Cougars (15-5, 12-4 American) ended a school-record 13-game winning streak for the visiting Bulls (14-2, 12-1).
(18) WEST VIRGINIA 72, KANSAS 68: Kysre Gondrezick scored 25 points, including a 3-pointer with 16.7 seconds left, Esmery Martinez had a double-double with a career-high 24 rebounds and the Mountaineers (18-4, 12-4 Big 12) defeated the Jayhawks (7-15, 3-13) in Lawrence, Kansas.
(21) GONZAGA 77, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 39: Jenn Wirth scored 19 points, Jill Townsend added 18 and the Bulldogs (21-3, 16-1 West Coast Conference) clinched their fifth straight league title with an easy win over the Lions (5-18, 4-14) in Spokane, Washington.
(22) SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 72, MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY 66: Paiton Burckhard scored a season-high 24 points as the host Jackrabbits (21-2, 14-0 Summit League) up a perfect regular season in conference play for the first time.
(23) MISSOURI STATE 64, LOYOLA CHICAGO 50: Jasmine Franklin scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and the Bears (17-2, 13-0 Missouri Valley) defeated the Ramblers (10-9, 8-7) in Springfield, Missouri.
(24) DEPAUL 75, PROVIDENCE 49: Lexi Held scored 21 points for the Blue Demons (14-6, 11-4 Big East) in a win over the Friars (6-13, 4-10) in Providence, Rhode Island.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
UNE 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Jessie Scott scored in the first period and Bella Crugnale added a second-period goal as the Nor’easters (3-0-0) defeated the Huskies (1-3-0) at USM Ice Arena in Gorham.
Julia Benjamin made 15 saves for the shutout. UNE has allowed just one goal in three games against the Huskies this season.
Kyra Yu assisted on both goals, and Avery Lutrzykowski assisted on Crugnale’s goal.
USM goalie Haley McKim stopped 29 shots.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
ALBANY 2, MAINE 0: Jasmine Colbert scored midway through the first half, Jada Colbert made it 2-0 in the 85th minute, and Sophia Chen needed only two saves as the Great Danes (1-1) blanked the Black Bears (0-2) in Albany, New York.
