Hike the trail

The first phase of the Cross Town Trail is now open year round for walking, running, biking, snowshoeing and skiing.

The 1.5 mile section follows the old Boston and Maine Railroad bed, which went through the center of Gorham beginning in the 1850s. The rail was removed about 70 years ago, according to the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, which collaborated with the Gorham Recreation Department and the Gorham Conservation Commission to open the trail.

Phase one of the Cross Town Trail is owned and managed by the town and has two trailheads – one on New Portland Road near Tink Drive and another at the end of Hutcherson Drive in the Industrial Park. The trail can also be accessed through our Meadowlands Preserve at the end of Joseph Drive.

Frazer Preserve, adjacent to the high school, is also part of the same railbed. The town and land trust together envision connecting these trails.
