EPPING, N.H. – Arthur William Gauthier, 70, of Epping, N.H. died on April 4, 2021 from complications due to dementia.
Arthur was born in Lewiston on May 3, 1950, the son of the late Edmond and Helene Roy Gauthier.
He was a graduate of Lewiston High (class of ’68) and in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971. He worked many jobs in his 20’s, from taxi driver to putting down rails in the Midwest, but he found his true calling when he began working at Pineland Center with the developmentally disabled. Showing an affinity for working with even the most severely afflicted, he continued to work with agencies in Portland, and in Quincy and Winthrop, Mass. until his retirement in 2012.
He loved conversations with strangers, dogs, little kids’ antics, chess, the Red Sox, iced coffee at McDonald’s and his daily walk at Market Basket.
He is survived by his sisters, Jeanne Smith and Sylvia Gauthier of Moline, Ill.; and his long-time partner, Devon Rains.
A gathering in his memory will be held later in the summer.
