Alvera R. Gibson

PORTLAND – Alvera R. Gibson passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by her loving children after a long battle with cancer at the age of 79.Vera was born in Portland on June 23, 1941 to Edwin and Christine (Rice) Booth. She graduated from Deering High School and began working for New England Telephone Co. as a telephone operator. She retired from (the now) AT&T after 30 years.She married the love of her life, James V Gibson, on August 25, 1962. Together, they raised a loving and happy family. A caregiver to all, Vera was always doing for others.She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim; brother, Neal Booth, sister-in-law, Janice Regan and brother-in-law, Howard Ingerson. Survivors include her daughter, Paula G. Small and husband Eric of South Portland, sons, James V. Gibson Jr. of Gray and Mark L. Gibson of Portland; sisters Vivian Dougherty and husband John of Portland and Carol Gale and husbandMichael of Westbrook; brothers Edwin Booth and wife Vicki of Portland, Ronald Booth and wife Izzy of Windham, Carl Booth and wife Cheri of Windham, David Booth and wife Kathy of Portland, Peter Booth and wife Diane of Berlin, N.H. and Paul Booth of Portland; sister-in-law, Barbara Ingerson of Concord, N.H., brother-in-law, Arthur Regan of South Portland; grandchildren, Sarah Boucher and husband Joshua of South Berwick, Elizabeth Small of Mason, Ohio and Timothy Small of South Portland; many nieces and nephews; and her Yorkie, Sweetpea.Special thanks to Dr. Jason Lachance, Dr. James Harper, Southern Maine Hospice, Gosnell House and all of their wonderful nurses and staff.Due to Covid 19 a service will be held sometime in the future.
