Mildred L. Harvey

SACO – Mildred L. Harvey, 89, of Saco passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Millie, as she was fondly known was born on August 5, 1931 in Portland, the daughter of the late Edward John and Irene (Brumm) Groden.

She graduated from Deering High School in Portland in 1949, where she was an honor student and member of the marching band. After high school Millie worked at Graybar Electric Company and later in life worked at City Square Auto Parts in Biddeford.

Millie loved the outdoors, the beach, and was an expert snow skier in her earlier years. She loved bowling with her husband, John, participating in number of bowling leagues at Roll A Way Lanes in Biddeford. While raising three boys in Saco, she was a familiar face cheering them on at Thornton Academy football, baseball, basketball, and hockey games. Millie enjoyed her summers with the Rendall family at Mousam Lake, and on the local golf courses as a long-time member of Biddeford-Saco Country Club and Salmon Falls Country Club.

Millie was predeceased by her husband John, an attorney in the York County area to whom she was married for 46 years; her son Richard A. Harvey; and her sister, Barbara Groden Hesse. She was a communicate at Most Holy Trinity Church and later at Good Shepard Parish in Saco.

She is survived by two sons, John J. Harvey Jr. and his wife Amy of Charleston, S.C. and Michael E. Harvey and his wife Kim of Saco, daughter-in-law Michele Harvey of Waterboro; sister Marilyn Groden Foley and her husband Peter of Framingham, Mass. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Brittany Harvey Isaacson and her husband Drew of Charlotte, N.C., Sarah Harvey, Emily Harvey and Hannah Harvey of Charleston, S.C., Tyler Harvey of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeffrey Harvey of Biddeford; and many nieces and nephews who will always treasure the times they spent with her. Millie was blessed for the many life-long friends, to include the Willett family, the Grondin family, and the Angis family of Saco, the Gallagher family of Gorham, and the Lynch family of Concord, N.H., who knew and loved her for the 64 years she lived in Saco.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery and Crematory, 293 Beach Street, Saco.
