JoAnne Dorothy Best

GREER, S.C. – JoAnne Dorothy Best, 87, of Greer, S.C., daughter of Edward and Dorothy Osgood,

passed away Jan. 12, 2021, in Greer, S.C.

JoAnne, and her husband, Burton, grew up together in Cumberland. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Joanne worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad in both Portland and Boston, and from there moved on to become an executive assistant for IBM in Portland retiring after 35 years. In the ’70s, JoAnne and Burton owned and operated the Songo Locks store in Naples for 10 years.

They retired to New Smyrna Beach, Fla. in the 1980s where they spent much of their time volunteering for various local organizations. They enjoyed taking cruises and socializing with friends and neighbors. They then moved to Greer, S.C. to be near their youngest daughter, Holly, and grandchildren. They continued to volunteer to local charitable organizations in the area.

JoAnne was predeceased by her parents; brothers Edward and Frederick.

She is survived by her husband; children Jim (Yaant) of Seattle, Don (Suzanne) of Norway, Kathy Best of Greer, S.C., Holly Diaz (Rosny) of Greer, S.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Bowie of Yarmouth.

Interment will be held at a later date at Moss Side Cemetery, Cumberland.
