John Waring Ernest Gunter “Gunner”
NEWFIELD – John Waring Ernest Gunter “Gunner”, 81, passed away on Sept. 14, 2021, at his home in Newfield after a period of declining health.
John was born in Portland on Sept. 5, 1940, the son of the late John and Agnes (Waring) Gunter. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1958. During his younger years he enjoyed modifying cars and racing hot rods with friends, which began a lifelong love of cars and racing activities. For 39 years, John worked as an owner-operator long haul truck driver for R.C. Moore. He retired in 2016.
Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his daughter, Katherine Gunter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary Ellen Gunter; children Carole Gunter and John W. Gunter; and grandchildren Abigail, Megan, and Zoe Gunter; as well as a large extended family of stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
Friends and family gathered with John at his home sharing memories and conversation during his time on hospice. There are no public services per John’s request.
