Francis “Frank” Michael Coyne

NORTH PORT, Fla. – Francis “Frank” Michael Coyne, 81, died on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at his home after a long battle with cancer. Frank was born on Jan. 15, 1940, in Portland, Maine, the son of the late Joseph F. and Sarah (Donahue) Coyne. Frank grew up in Portland, attended local schools, and graduated in 1958. After graduating, Frank enlisted and served honorably in the United States Navy for four years.Frank was an entrepreneur. He moved to Connecticut to open an office supply store in Meriden, Connecticut. After some time, he decided to move back to Portland, Maine, where he managed the well-known Coyne’s Restaurant on Woodford’s Corner. He later opened Coyne’s Variety Store in Westbrook. Frank was also very involved in apartment and commercial real estate rental.During his free time, he enjoyed sailing on Casco Bay, golfing, dancing, hiking, singing and playing cards with friends. He remained active spending lots of time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor. Many knew him as being “158 pounds of blue twisted steel and sex appeal.”He was predeceased by his brothers, John “Jack” and Vincent Coyne. He is survived by his significant other, Marguerite Darling of North Port, Fla.; his son, Michael Coyne and wife Michelle of Gorham; sister, Mary Kane and husband Vincent of South Portland; brothers, Joseph Coyne and wife Edwardine of Conn.; Richard Coyne and wife Marie of Portland; three grandchildren, Mckenze Vachon and husband Derek, Ryan and Cory Coyne and many nieces and nephews.Visiting hours celebrating Francis’ life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, from 4-7 p.m., at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street Portland, Maine.
