Annabelle “Ann” Walz

PORTLAND – Annabelle “Ann” Walz died Dec. 29, 2021 at the age of 96.She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Caroli Walz, of 64 years.She is survived by her four children, Philip Liggett Walz, Jeanne Walz Gorham, Michael Adolf Walz and Caroline Steele Carlson; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Kathryn Sue Huddleston.She is predeceased by her four brothers, Earl Liggett, Duwaine Liggett, Eugene Liggett and Maurice Liggett and two sisters, Genevieve Rumple and Lucy Mallory.Ann was born on Nov. 15, 1925 in South Bend, Ind. to Burnice Liggett and Vera Leona Steele Liggett. She attended North Liberty, Ind. schools and Purdue University (B.S. and M.S.) with degrees in Home Economics. She relished her time working as a nutritionist at the University of Michigan and presenting healthy eating workshops on WENH-TV, Channel 11 in New Hampshire.She married Thomas C. Walz in 1956 and they proceeded to New England. They settled down in Hopkinton, N.H. where she applied her own Liggett working farm knowledge to develop their own small farm, as well as raise a family.She was caring, family oriented and encouraged her children to value education and try new things. Ann stressed good nutrition, resourcefulness and to avoid waste. She was always supportive of her family. A full life, well lived.Services will be held at a later date.
