Maurice H. Vermette

SANFORD – Maurice H. Vermette, a resident of Sanford for 92 years, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Jan. 29, 2022. He was born in Sanford on Dec. 27, 1929, a son of the late Emile and Florida (Baron) Vermette. He attended Sanford schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He served for four years during the Korean Conflict.

Shortly after his discharge he met Jeannette Parent, the love of his life and they married on August 7, 1954.

In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his buddies. Later in life he enjoyed golfing, woodworking and playing cards with family and friends. He was a jack of all trades in his younger years and eventually retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He is predeceased by his sisters Germaine Camire, Rita Harrington, Irene Simpson, Jeannette Manson and brothers Norman Vermette, Donald Vermette, Andre Vermette; and grandson, Joshua Bridges.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeannette Vermette; his son, Daniel Vermette and wife, Sherry, their three children, April, Clifford and Anthony and their four grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter, Gloria Calcaterra and significant other, Chris Yates and her three daughters, Danielle, Jaimee and Lindsay and her four grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Margret Brown and Carmen Lepage and brother, Phillip Vermette; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to niece, Sandy Scarpelli and her friend Carmen Duross for always making him feel special.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. A private burial will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert and Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.
