Sandra J. Cordner

FREEPORT – Sandra J. Cordner,”Chi-Chi”, 80, of Freeport, passed away Jan. 9, 2022.

She was born in Providence, R.I. to Christi and Estelle Stappas. She graduated from East Providence High School, R.I. After graduating high school, Sandra moved to Maine and attended Pierre School of Beauty.

Sandra married the love of her life, Ronald Cordner, in 1964, and resided in Freeport, where they raised their two children, Krista and Desmond.

Sandra lived her life with amazing positivity and grace, always seeing the best in everyone and encouraging others to do the same. Her easygoing, kind nature could be felt by strangers, who quickly became a friend.

Sandra’s openness to people and opportunities is evident in the diverse hobbies and jobs she enjoyed. Sandra painted photographed portraits, sold Shaklee vitamins, and was a successful hairdresser. She was the manager for many years at Christmas Magic, in Freeport. Sandra loved this job, as Christmas was her most favorite holiday and time of year. She enjoyed working for a local flower shop, and then was a much loved “lunch lady” for Yarmouth Schools.

She had many hobbies and was always trying new things. She devoted her life to loving and supporting her family and friends. She loved being a grandmother, and was always involved and supportive with her grandchildren.

Sandra had a challenging yet graceful journey with Alzheimer’s. She was loved and supported through this journey by her family and close friend, Linda Wyman. Sandra was welcomed into the home of her son, Desmond, and his wife Julie, who were her primary caregivers. Sandra knew she was safe and loved, and passed peacefully with Desmond and Julie at her side.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ronald; and her grandson, Nicholas.

She is survived by a daughter, Krista Cordner and grandson Ryan of Freeport; her son, Desmond and wife Julie Cordner; grandchildren Krista, Selena and husband Bradley Harriman, and Samuel Cordner, all of Lisbon Falls. Sandra was also survived by her sister, Katherine (Paul) Roberts of Epping, N.H.; as well as nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
