Officers demonstrate community policing in action
Two Westbrook police officers reached out to help elderly people during an ice storm earlier this month, according to postings on the Westbrook Police Department Facebook page.
Officer Bryan Amaral assisted an elderly couple by helping the man, who was in his 80s and had Parkinson’s disease, to safely reach the couple’s car from a local business.
Sgt. Chris Burgess delivered some sand to an elderly woman who had called for help. He also shoveled her out, gaining access to the house and garage doors.
Free food
The Locker Project will have free food available at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at 733 Main St. and every Thursday until June 30.
Also, free food will be available at 3 p.m. each Monday through June 27 at Community Policing Center, 192 Brown St.
50 years ago
The American Journal reported Feb. 16, 1972, that Mrs. Connie LaViolet was chairperson of the food sale at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary on Bridge Street.
