Joseph Charczenko

WESTBROOK – Joseph Charczenko, 71, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully Sunday evening with his wife Sherel Charczenko by his side. He spent his final days surrounded by his wife, children, and family he loved so much.Joseph was born with his twin brother Jacob on Oct. 10, 1950, in Chicago, to Kateryna and Zachar Charczenko. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Piston, Maine, where they owned and operated a family farm. During Joseph’s teenage years the family moved to Portland, where he attended Deering High School. This is where he met the love of his life, and future wife, Sherel (Osier) Charczenko. He graduated Deering High School in 1968, and attended Northeast School of Business and Southern Maine Vocational Institute. Joseph and Sherry were married in 1972, and shortly thereafter had their first child (Joseph Jr.) in 1975. That same year he started his own business, Charczenko and Sons Construction, for which he operated for over 35 years. Over the next few years they were blessed with two more children, Adam and Cynthia. Joseph was an amazing family man, and loved his wife, children, and grandchildren with all his heart. Joseph was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating whenever possible. He loved spending his free time with his family and friends in the outdoors, or up at camp. He especially enjoyed spending time playing with his grandchildren, Ethan, Maya, Maicey and Nora. Joseph shared a special connection with his siblings, and an undeniable bond with his identical twin, Jimmy. They have been inseparable their whole life, and talked to each other every day.Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sherel Charczenko – Westbrook, as well as his three children: Joseph “Joey” Jr., Rita and Nora – Glen Ridge, N.J.; Adam, Rebecca, Ethan and Maya – Milford, Mass.; Cynthia “Cindy” and Maicey – Westbrook. He is further survived by his brother Walter – Chelsea; sister Polina and Paul McDonnell – Cumberland; brother Jacob ”Jimmy”, -Windham. He was predeceased by his brother – John Charczenko; sister – Nina Cooper; brother – Paul Charczenko; and sister-In-Law – Susan Charczenko.Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 at Dolby, Blais and Segee Funeral Home, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, Maine 04092. Visiting hours will be held from 1-3 p.m., and a funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. There will be celebration of life to follow.
