Library group to discuss book sale, scholarships

A summer book sale and the group’s scholarship will be on the agenda when Friends of Walker Memorial Library meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, on the second floor of the library at 800 Main St.

Members will discuss the June 4 sale along with the need to contact guidance counselors to nominate Westbrook High School and vocational school seniors for $1,000 scholarships from the Friends group.

The group meets the fourth Thursday of each month and all who are interested are invited to attend.

Historic 3D program

Bernard Fishman, director of the Maine State Museum, will present a program, “Historic Maine in 3D,” when Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the Community Center at 426 Bridge St.

The program features a modern way of looking at early 19th-century commercial photography when binocular images on cards or glass called stereoviews allowed images to be seen in 3D when looked at through a viewer.

To see the projection show, those attending will be given free paper glasses like the ones used to view 3D horror movies in the 1950s.
