A shoutout to high school poetry winner

Julia Ordway, the winner of the Poetry Out Loud contest at Gorham High School, has been selected as one of five semifinalists from the southern region to compete in the state competition.

Ordway will compete via her video submissions at the state level, according to Gorham High School Principal Brian Jandreau. Ten regional finalists will proceed to the Maine state finals. The winner and runner-up will be announced March 14.

Poetry Out Loud is a national program that promotes the study of great poetry by hosting a recitation competition for high school students across the country.

The American Journal reported March 1, 1972, that Richard Parady and Jason Noble escorted the Thrifty Workers 4-H Club of Little Falls to Gray-New Gloucester High School for a power tool demonstration.
