Jean M. Delano

SCARBOROUGH – Jean M. Delano of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 4, 1939, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Roy and Jeannette (Bellefeuille) Sicard. Jean attended St. Mary’s Academy in Westbrook, then graduated from St. Joseph’s in Portland.

In 1959, she married the love of her life, Tim Delano. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 2009. During the early years, Jean was a devoted homemaker. While helping raise their three sons, she made sure to attend all of their extracurricular activities to offer support. After the boys graduated, she cofounded the Delano Insurance Agency in Portland. In retirement, she loved to tend her flower gardens.

Jean always looked forward to celebrating Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family. During the early years, she did all the cooking and in later years she would go to one of her children’s homes to celebrate. In no case a coincidence, just as she took care of her sons, they provided her care during the last two months of her life.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Donald and Phillip and grandson Steven.

She is survived by her three sons, Joseph and wife Katherine of Freeport, Mark of Scarborough and James and wife Elizabeth of Saco. She is also survived by five grandchildren.

The family invites you to celebrate Jean’s life on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road in Scarborough at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
