Jacqueline Joyce Sewell

KENNEBUNK – Jacqueline Joyce Sewell, a resident of Kennebunk and formerly of the Bangor area, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at her residence just six days shy of her 90th birthday.

“Jackie”, to those who knew and loved her, was born August 16, 1932, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Fred and Phyllis Jordan. She attended local schools and graduated from The Aroostook State Teacher’s College with a degree in education. She taught at elementary schools for six years before becoming a mom. Later on, she served as a substitute teacher, sold Avon and worked at Customs at the Bangor International Airport.

Jackie married Dwight Sewell on August 16, 1958. They moved to the Bangor area in 1966 where they brought up their family.

Jackie was associated with several U.C.C churches in Maine and Naples, Fla., where she wintered with Dwight. Most recently, she had been attending Christ Church in Kennebunk.

Jackie’s greatest joy was her family. She also loved the color pink, summers on Portage Lake, cheering on the Red Sox, reading and solving puzzles. Her strawberry rhubarb pie was the best! Jackie and Dwight enjoyed traveling near and far with friends.

Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Dwight in 2017.

Jackie is survived by daughter, Donna (A.J.) of Portland, sons Thomas (Donna) of Saco and Jon (Kelley) of Eliot; six grandchildren, Abigail Doody (Casey), Emily Bowen (Zach), Erica Sewell, Marissa Sewell, Kaitlin Sewell, Joshua Sewell; and great-granddaughter, Madilynn Doody. Jackie is also survived by her brothers James Jordan of Presque Isle and Philip Jordan (Carol) of Houlton.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 17, from 4-6 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, with a funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. Interment will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18 at Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Springvale.
