Author explores meaning of ‘good’ motherhood

Join Jennifer Dupree for a talk about her novel, “The Miraculous Flight of Owen Leach” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Windham Public Library.  The book delves into what it means to be a “good” mother and who gets to decide what that constitutes. Dupree, who is a former circulation supervisor at the library, will also be leading a workshop to offer aspiring writers some helpful tips to get their creative juices flowing. Bargains galore

A half-price yard sale will be held outside the North Windham Union Church thrift shop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, with many items priced at $1 or $2. There will be clothing for all ages, shoes and miscellaneous dishware and household items. Books will be 50 cents but are buy one, get one free. Cash only, and there’s a rain date of Sept. 17.

The shop will be open as well. Regular shop hours are 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Thursdays, and some Saturdays this fall. Be sure to look for the flag and sign at 723 Roosevelt Trail in North Windham.

Last days at Dundee

The last day of operation for the summer at Dundee Park will be Monday, Sept. 5, when the park will close at 5 p.m. So while the weather is warm, be sure to stop by for a swim, a cookout, or just some fun in the sun.

Calling Windham veterans

The Windham Veterans Association will hold its annual membership meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 19. The monthly board meeting is open to all members so they can vote on issues of interest and select officers for the coming year. In addition, both the VFW and American Legion are required to submit five candidates for membership on the Windham Veterans Association board. This is the time to be sure your voice is heard.

Cancer support group

The monthly meeting of the Windham Cancer Support Group will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Windham Public Library. This group is open to anyone with cancer, their caregivers and for those who have lost a loved one to the disease. Come in through the library’s side door. If you feel a need to talk, this is a place you can feel free to express your thoughts and others will be willing to listen.
