FORT MYERS, Fla. – On Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, Peter McIntosh Cleveland passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 79 in Fort Myers, Fla.
Peter was born April 4, 1943, to Martha (Veit) and Charles “Goody” Cleveland and was a long-time New Englander after his parents moved from Chappequa, N.Y. to Randolph, Vt. when Peter was young. He and his brother, Fred, along with their parents and grandparents, Reginald “Rex” and Denise Cleveland, worked the family farm in Randolph, Vt. for years.
He earned his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law and practiced law in Essex Junction, Rutland, and Shelburne, Vt. He was also a Volunteer Fireman in Shelburne, Vt. His entrepreneurial spirit resulted in the co-founding of various local businesses including the Cleveland & Unsworth Law Firm in Shelburne, Vt., and RSVP Discount Beverage and Redemption Center in Portland.
During his life, he had a passion for duck hunting, the theater, opera, classical music, cooking, world travel, and playing duplicate bridge where he became an American Contract Bridge League Life Master. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, charm, contagious smile, and ability to light up a room.
Peter is survived by his wife of nearly 26 years, Judy Ann; daughters Jessica, Heather, Meghan, stepchildren David, Melanie, Andrew, and Amy-Lynn; brother, Fred; nephews Charlie and Andy; and many grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service is being planned. The family will notify loved ones when a service is scheduled in Randolph, Vt.
