Arthur Charles Juniewicz

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Arthur Charles Juniewicz, 90, of Vero Beach, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.

Art was born at Fort Williams, in Cape Elizabeth on Sept. 2, 1931 to Ruth Johnson Manchester and Alexander Juniewicz, Sr. When Art was a young child, his family lived in the Goddard Mansion at Fort Williams. Arthur, along with his sister, Harriett and brother, Alexander, enjoyed many adventures, pranks, and laughs together at Fort Williams. The family later moved to Highland Lake in Westbrook where Art attended Westbrook schools.

Art enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1947. He served as a paratrooper and then as a Green Beret in the Special Forces, earning commendations for leadership and bravery and the Bronze Star for heroism. He served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years; during that time, he was stationed in Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Art was also an instructor at New York Military Academy and Eastern Military Academy in Huntington, N.Y., where he met his wife-to-be, Barbara. After retiring from the Army, he worked in security at St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Florida.

Arthur married the love of his life, Barbara Lawlor, on Nov. 12, 1970. He was a devoted husband and father. Art and Barbara moved from Long Island, N.Y. to Midway Estates in Vero Beach, Fla., where they enjoyed the beach and a close community of wonderful friends. Art most recently resided at The Isles in Vero Beach, Fla.

Art’s family remembers him as the dashing Green Beret who treated everyone to a good time at every opportunity. Art loved to make people laugh, tell jokes, play cards, read, golf, and head out to fish before dawn. Recently he enjoyed feeding the turtles and fish instead of catching them. He cherished time spent with family and friends; he was a tough guy with a heart of gold who always had a smile on his face and a can-do attitude.

Arthur is survived by his brother, Alexander Juniewicz, Jr., of Westbrook; his stepdaughter, Denise Motroni of Naples, Fla.; a nephew, nieces; and loving extended family, who will greatly miss him.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Barbara; his sister, Harriett Hofmann; and his stepsons Michael Lawlor and Scott Lawlor.

Art will be laid to rest, with dignity and honor, at Arlington National Cemetery, with others who served their country in our nation’s history. He has earned his place among them.
