Berniece G. Hodgkin

Berniece G. Hodgkin 1929 – 2022 AUBURN – Berniece G. (Young) Hodgkin passed peacefully at her home in Auburn on Oct. 20, 2022 in the company of loving family. Bea was born on the family farm in Belgrade, Aug. 7, 1929 to Maynard R. Young, Sr. and Ruth Barrows Young. Upon graduation from Cony High School in 1947, she was employed by Central Maine Power Company in Augusta. At a dance in Manchester she met Edward C. Hodgkin of Auburn and the rest, as they say, is history. They married in Augusta on March 11, 1951. Upon completion of Ed’s military service in Lawton, Okla. they returned to Maine settling in Auburn to raise their family and start their construction business, Hodgkin Inc. Together they worked side by side building their business and enjoying life. They traveled extensively, enjoyed winters at their home in Bonita Springs, Fla., always returning to their “happy place”, Taylor Pond. Ed passed Dec. 17, 2015 and they are now together again for eternity. Bea is survived by their daughters Marcia (Tom) Hennessey of Raymond, Karen (Leigh) Paulsen of Estero, Fla., and Lynne (Stuart) Sayre of Cape Elizabeth; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amy Bergeron (Bill) Desmarais and her sons Spencer and Shane Bergeron of Saco; Edward Chervenak (Regina Violette) and children Scarlett and Sebastian Chervenak (Alexa Violette Roy) of Lewiston; Melissa (Steve) Wood and their children Ayla, Cole and Ella of Manchester, N.H.; Elizabeth (Andy) Lodge and their son, William of Liverpool, N.Y.; and Jacob Paulsen (Saralyn) and their son, Mason of Concord, N.H. Over the past year the devoted caregivers of Elite Homecare LLC made her days comfortable, enjoyable and memorable. We are forever grateful for the conversation and giggles they shared with Mom, and the guidance and wisdom these heroes provided us through this journey.
