Cub Scout builds a Santa Claus Lego car

Finn Theriault, a Tiger Cub from Pack 349 in Buxton, was one of more than 60 Cubs and Scouts who participated in the annual Lego Pinewood Derby Nov. 12 at Camp Bomazeen in Belgrade, according to a press release.

Finn built a Santa Claus car. “Santa knows how to go really fast,” he said.

Participating racers were given a kit of blocks and other items to build their cars, which have to meet specific height, width and length requirements largely in order to fit on the track and not interfere with other racers. Trays of additional blocks and accessories were provided as well to help feed their imaginations.

Adam Theriault accompanied his son at the event.

GoFundMe page to help Buxton woman

A social worker from Waterboro has started a GoFundMe page to benefit Wendy Plummer, a 60-year-old disabled widow.

The Buxton Select Board gave Plummer a deadline earlier this month of Jan. 1 to remove a mobile home from her property on Old Thompson Road. The five-member board determined the mobile home met the criteria of a dangerous building.

The fund was established following an American Journal article Nov. 10. The fund drive has raised $125 as of Nov. 17 with a goal of $3,000.
