Unsafe home to come down

The Buxton Select Board is making plans to demolish a condemned mobile home after ordering Wendy Plummer to remove it from her property in November.

The board declared the home to be unstable, structurally unsafe, unsanitary, a fire hazard and unsuitable for occupancy, the American Journal reported.

Plummer, a disabled widow, last year was without funds and a vehicle.

The town is now accepting bids for the “immediate demolition” of the double wide mobile home and the filling in of the foundation at 60 Old Thompson Road.

All bids must be received by 4 p.m. on March 8, at Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road.

A GoFundMe fundraiser generated $325 for Plummer and is no longer accepting donations.

50 years ago

The American Journal reported on Feb. 28, 1973, that the Groveville Community Club honored active senior Roland Tapley with a program called “This is your life in Groveville.”

Tapley was a member of the Groveville Fire Department since it began in 1962 and the Republican Town Committee. He was a  mason in West Buxton for more than 25 years and retired from the Saco Lowell Company.

Irene Dyer, president of the community club, presented Tapley with gifts.
