Civil War nurses of Maine

The Buxton-Hollis Historical Society, 100 Main St., Buxton, will host a discussion at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, about nursing during the Civil War.

Nancy Ponzetti, president of the Historical Society, will speak about “Battlefield Angels,” including nurses from Maine who served, such as Rebecca Usher of Hollis.

Register for parade

Registrations for the 2023 Buxton Community parade on Aug. 12 are rolling in, according to Town Clerk John Myers.

The theme this year is “Eat, Sleep, Play Sports.” Some of the early-bird registrations include 99.9 The Wolf, Girl Scout Troop No. 1354, Gorham Sand & Gravel, KORA Motor Corp, Living Waters Christian School, Peters Construction and the Red Cross Topsham office with Uncle Sam.

Free seniors’ turkey dinner

Bonny Eagle students and SAD 6 administrators will serve a free turkey dinner to the district’s senior citizens at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at the Bonny Eagle High School cafeteria on Saco Road in Standish.

The district includes Buxton, Frye Island, Hollis, Limington and Standish. RSVP by calling 929-2312 or emailing cweeks@bonnyesglre.org.
