Fred I. Libby II

GLOUCESTER – Fred I. Libby, II, 69, of New Gloucester, was born in Sanford on August 31, 1953 to Fred I Libby and Georgette Courtwright. Fred graduated from Massabesic High School, where he also managed the girls’ varsity softball team.

After graduation, he worked at Goodall Hospital and then went to work at Bath Iron Works. He worked at Bath Iron Works for over 23 years as a Marine Electrician.

Fred was an avid bowler. He loved the ocean, riding his mountain bike, hiking, and watching wrestling. He was accomplished in two forms of self-defense. He was an avid animal lover, especially cats and wolves. He was also a sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins, where he would banter with his brothers about who won or lost. Fred loved to laugh and joke with anyone that he came in contact with. He had a life-long love of steamahs and lobstah.

Fred passed on June 12, 2023 after a lifelong battle of many medical issues. His wife, Sharon, and sister, Ruth, were by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Libby, his sister, Ruth Frazier of Maine, his brother Greg Libby (Denise) of Florida, his brother Tim Libby (Sue) of Oklahoma, his sister Michelle Jenkins of New Hampshire; his stepson Randy Libby (Alexis) of New Gloucester, his much loved grandson, Randy Junior, and stepson Ryan Libby of New Gloucester; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 25, 2023 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the American Legion Post in Gray, Maine.
