Third grade fundraising heroes
At a special ceremony on June 13, third grade students from Windham Primary School presented the Windham Historical Society with a check for $5,258. This impressive amount was the result of a fundraiser the students put together. They raised the money by running laps around the high school track after they obtained sponsors.

The students selected the society as their benefactor after many of them toured the Village Green last fall. They all enjoyed visiting the living history village where they explored what it was like attending classes in a 19th century one-room schoolhouse and got a glimpse of the old Windham Town Hearse. They were also fascinated by the Old Grocery where they saw what an old-time mercantile was like at the turn of the 20th century.
“This is such an honor and we are so impressed with what the children have done for us,” said Historical Society president Susan Simonson. “There is a lot of work still to be done on the Village Green before it’s finished and this donation will be of so much help. We thank everyone who participated for their hard work and generosity. We are truly blown away.”
These students have demonstrated community spirit in action and are all hometown heroes.
Children’s Summer Reading Challenge
The Windham Public Library is once again hosting their children’s summer reading program. Over the summer, there will be activities and challenges to engage the brain and help kids to learn about themselves. Prizes will be given for completing activities on bookmarks. Complete the first bookmark and get a free book, and each bookmark after that yields a prize of choice. The program will run until Aug. 12. All completed bookmarks must be turned in by Aug. 31. Cancer support meeting
The monthly meeting of the Windham Cancer Support Group will take place Tuesday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. This month’s meeting will include the founders of the group who will pay a visit and discuss why the group was formed 17 years ago.
