Leaf peeping on the water

Outdoor enthusiasts ages 18 and up are invited to join the Windham Parks and Recreation Department and Sebago Trails Paddling Co. for a fall foliage guided kayaking tour from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30.

Meet at Sebago Trails Paddling Co. at 1311 Roosevelt Trail in Raymond. The paddling will begin at the historic Gambo Dam and will travel up the Presumpscot River. Sign up for $49 at windhamme.myrec.com.

Science experiments for grades 4-5

Registration is open to Windham children in grades 4-5 for an eight-class series of “Mad Science: Energize It” all about energy, forces, motion, potions and slime at Manchester School. Students will explore optical illusions, chemistry and pH levels, gyroscopes and build a gravity game to take home.

Classes will take place from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. on Wednesdays from Oct. 11 to Dec. 6 at the Manchester School, 709 Roosevelt Trail. The fee is $115. Registration closes Oct. 9. Sign up at windhamme.myrec.com. For more information, contact the Windham Parks and Recreation Department at 892-1905.

Don’t forget: Fall Harvest Fest

Pie-eating and pumpkin-carving contests are on the menu at the Windham Historical Society’s Fall Harvest Festival Oct. 7.

The festival will be held at the Village Green at 234 Windham Center Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other features include a craft fair, relay races, pumpkin painting, blacksmith demonstrations and tours of the historical society’s buildings. Town Clerk Linda Morrell will officiate the pie-eating contest. The Sebago Lakes Ukulele Society will perform at the gazebo, as well as Windham Middle School’s student band and later Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection.
