Roger Urbain Bastarache, owner of R & W Engraving and Quick Copy Center and lifelong resident of Maine has passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on May 16, 2024.
Roger was born on Aug. 7, 1954, in Biddeford, Maine, to Therese and Joseph Bastarache. As a child, Roger was active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed learning all about the scouts. His mom, at one point, was even a den mother for his troop. He graduated from Biddeford High School. While in high school, he enjoyed playing his guitar and was in a band.
Roger went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Joanne, and together they raised two sons, David and Jason. Roger was a fantastic chef working in restaurants and catering for many events. He was a master in the kitchen. After many years of cooking, and with the support of his family, Roger ventured into a new career, becoming the owner of R & W Engraving and Quick Copy Center with his wife Joanne. Roger worked with many local schools and towns and was often the go-to for anything that needed engraving in Biddeford and many surrounding towns. He took pride in his work and that could be seen in the beautiful work he produced.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing all seasons. One of his fondest memories was hunting moose with his father-in-law, Omer, in 1990. He loved spending time on the lake on his pontoon boat with his family and friends. Roger could often be seen teaching a child how to fish or showing them the fun things that he had caught.
Roger is survived by: his mother, Therese Bastarache; his brothers, Daniel (Denise) Bastarache and Rene (Raluca) Bastarache; his sister, Dolly (Todd) Smith; his loving wife Joanne; his two sons David Bastarache and Jason Bastarache (Crystal); and his two granddaughters, Brianna and Taylor Bastarache.
