Wild Blueberry Festival
The eighth annual Wild Blueberry Festival takes place Aug. 10 and fills Pennell Park and the parking lots at Gray Town Hall with food trucks, live music, artisans, crafters, a farmers market, community, school and church groups, a kids tent, blueberry and bee mascots and more.

Fire Rescue barbecue
The annual Gray Fire Rescue Association chicken barbecue and yard sale is happening Aug. 3 from noon to 2 p.m. Preorder meals for $14 by going to gray-fire-rescue-association.square.site. Meals are to be picked up at 125 Shaker Road that Saturday.
Golf tournament
Support the Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester hockey team at the second annual King’s Boy’s Hockey Golf Tournament on Aug. 5 at Fairlawn Golf Course.

Birthday bear
Maine Wildlife Park is celebrating the 30th birthday of their resident black bear, Suzie, on Aug. 10.
The park at 56 Game Farm Road opens at 9:30 a.m. and events for Suzie’s birthday are included with admission. At 11 a.m., a wildlife keeper will be at the black bear enclosure to talk about Suzie, black bear adaptations and how the park cares for its bears.
At 1 p.m., a black bear biologist from the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will discuss more about the species and how they are managed in Maine.

Community supper
The First Congregational Church of Gray will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at 5 Brown St. The building is wheelchair accessible. Meals are single-sized and $10 each, paid at the door.
The menu includes casseroles and salads, baked pea beans and red kidney beans, red hot dogs, breads and an assortment of desserts and beverages. The church can be contacted at 657-4279.
‘Make Your Own Mystery’
Maine authors Richard Cass, Barbara Ross and Julia Spencer-Fleming will present a “Make Your Own Mystery” interactive event at the Gray Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25.
Audience members can contribute ideas, such as names, locations, motives, weapons and more, as the writers create a mystery story on the fly. Attendance is free and the authors’ books will be available for purchase and signing. For more information, contact the library at 657-4110 or graylib@graymaine.org.
