Cargo Pizza, formerly a food truck, opened a restaurant this week in the former home of Falafel Time on Forest Avenue.
Owner Gregory Mihos, who said he always knew he wanted to open a brick-and-mortar location, described his underlying concept as offering customers “a high-quality item at a reasonable price and to do it quickly.”
The restaurant at 1053 Forest Ave. will have its official grand opening Thursday; its soft opening was Wednesday.
Mihos said his whole life he’d worked for his father, Dimitrios Mihos, who owns Romeos Pizza with locations in Scarborough, Yarmouth and Topsham, “so this is my rendition of a pizza place.”
The pizza style is a mashup of New Haven and Neo-Neapolitan, he said, explaining the latter as “similar to Neapolitan. Not as floppy and airy but it still has those noticeable qualities.”
In addition to pizza, the menu includes smash burgers and fried foods, such as chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks.
Cargo Pizza will be open from 7-10:30 a.m. for grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches and coffee, then switch to pizza from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., it will offer 10-inch grab-and-go pizzas, a pepperoni ($10.25) and a cheese pizza ($9). For now, the restaurant is open Wednesdays through Sundays.
“The intention is to open seven days a week as soon as we get staff,” Mihos said. In a few weeks, he also plans to add third-party delivery service. Find the restaurant at cargopizzacompany.com.
