David Roger Letarte
BRUNSWICK – David Letarte, 73, of Bowdoin, passed away on Dec. 21, 2025, to be with his family and dog Daisy in heaven. David was born in Brunswick on Jan. 14, 1952, to Maurille and Louise (Cote) Letarte, grew up in Topsham, attended St. Johns and graduated from Brunswick High School.
David was in the US Army from 1971-1974 with a tour in Vietnam as a front-line infantryman in 1972. He continued to give to our country by building US Navy ships for 42 years, as a welder, at BIW.
David’s pastimes were motorcycling and bowling in his early years but primarily a lifetime of hunting and striper fishing. He started hunting as a young teen, bow and gun, and continued until a couple of years ago. The Times Record published an article about his hunting when he was young. One of his big highlights was hunting a caribou in Northern Quebec. He also had many Biggest Bucks in Maine Club patches earned for white tail deer over 200 pounds. In his later years he brought along a camera.
David was predeceased by his parents, daughter Mariah Letarte and brother Denis Letarte, along with many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
His wife, Margaret Letarte of Bowdoin, stepdaughters Emily Fitzgerald (Peter) of Bucksport and Kimberly Henderson of Bowdoin, as well as sisters, Linda Meinhardt (Jerry) of Bowdoin and Lisa Letarte of Mechanic Falls survive him, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
David was a wonderful man to so many, especially the children in his life. He will be greatly missed.
