Jean L. Pullen

HARPSWELL – Jean L. Pullen, 89, of Pinkham Point Road, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

Jean was born in Portland, on April 1, 1936, the daughter of the late William H. Capen and Alice (Nash) Marsh. She grew up in Portland.

In 1952 she married Kenneth R. Toothaker Sr. and together they made their home in Harpswell. She later married Alfred Pullen and shared many happy years together until his passing in 2014. In 2016 she married her longtime friend, Stephan Douglas in Auburn. Stephan and Jean shared nine wonderful years together.

Jean started her working career as a waitress at the Cook’s Corner Chuck Wagon Restaurant, a career which lasted for 22 years. She then went to work at Bath Iron Works as a Preservation Technician, retiring after more the 37 years of working at BIW.

In her spare time, Jean always put her family and friends first, she loved to bake, make jams and was just an all-around great cook. She enjoyed crafting, scratch tickets, collecting mice figurines, and taking the family to the beach for picnics, picking shells and sea glass, and enjoying her favorite TV Soaps. She was a very generous person, donating to horse rescue, animal rescue, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and many other charitable organizations. Jean also loved Christmas, it was her favorite holiday.

Jean was predeceased by a daughter, Tracie Shorette in 2016; granddaughter, Rebecca Bisson in 1983; a sister-in-law, Madeline Harris, brothers William and Richard Kapan and Sonny Marsh, sisters Ruth Alexander, Barbara Frederick and Lori Marsh.

She is survived by her husband, Stephan Douglas of Harpswell; four daughters, Madeline (Thomas) Morrison of Brunswick, Susan Toothaker of Brunswick, Georgia (Garey) Hartley of Bowdoin, Cynthia (Jamey) Glynn of Bowdoin, a son, Kenneth Toothaker Jr. of Harpswell, son-in-law, Larry Shorette of Brunswick; seven grandchildren, Phil, Chris, Melinda, Teddy, Crystal, Rachel and Jamey Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Marcus, Angel, Jackson and Madelynn; several nieces and nephews; and several four-legged grandchildren.

At the families request, all services will be private. Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Stetson’s Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
