Jonathan D. Seaver
SANFORD – On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Jonathan David Seaver, “Jon”, passed away at home. He was 77. Jon was born on Aug. 16, 1948, into a Salvation Army family, the second son of Brigadier and Mrs. Douglass Seaver.
Upon graduating from Pennsbury High School, Bucks County, Pa., in 1966, Jon enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS BELKNAP from 1966 to 1970, earning among other commendations, the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars.
In 1975, after graduating cum laude from the University of Southern Maine, Jon began his teaching career in Wollongong, N.S.W. Australia. He returned to Maine in 1978 and taught and served as Head Teacher in RSU 57, until his retirement in 2005. “Mr. Seaver” was a well-known and popular teacher in the school and throughout the local communities.
As well, Jon enjoyed favorite-uncle status with nieces and nephews and will be remembered for his easy laughter, his sense of humor and great family stories.
Jon was a faithful member of the Salvation Army, participating in both services and outreach, generous in his support of the Army’s mission.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and nephew, Jack. He is survived by his brother Doug Seaver (Cheryl) and his sister, Joy Seaver Olsen (Richard), their children, Kate Seaver (Mike Gross), Sydney Seaver Wyse (Eric), Will Seaver (Joanna) and Sam Atwood as well as five great nieces and nephews.
Jon will be missed.
