Sandra “Sandy” Nichols
KENNEBUNK – Sandra “Sandy” Nichols, 85, of Kennebunk, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2026, while doing one of the things she loved—taking a walk at Roger’s Pond.
Sandy was born on June 25, 1940, in Washington, D.C. She later made her home in Kennebunk, where she raised her two children while building a professional career in administrative roles at local medical offices. Over the years she became a familiar and friendly presence in the community she loved, including through her participation in the Seacoast Garden Club.
Over the past decade, Sandy became deeply involved in her faith community at South Congregational Church, where she actively contributed to community outreach programs and formed many meaningful friendships. She was also an active participant at the local senior center, where she enjoyed the community and supported many of their initiatives. Sandy was known for her warm spirit and the full life she lived. She especially loved gardening, reading, and playing bridge.
Sandy is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Leach; her daughter, Kimberly Pickering; and her daughter-in-law, Sylvie Angell. She was a proud grandmother to Hannah Palmer (Kyle), Meghan Seymour (Dustin), Emily Ardell (Chris), and Caden Angell, who lovingly knew her as “Grandy.” She was also a cherished great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Gigi from Maine.” She is also survived by her dog Nae Nae who has been her constant companion for the past 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Angell, whose life was lost far too soon, and by her parents, Franklin Otto Paul and Ida La Greta Scheaffer.
Sandy will be remembered for her strong faith, her love of family, and the kindness she showed to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She now rests reunited with her beloved son, Glenn.
Funeral services will be held at South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m., followed by a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Pilot House. All who knew Sandy are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
