Joyce Hoeschen

GEORGETOWN / MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – Joyce Hoeschen, 92, died unexpectedly but peacefully, March 2, 2026, surrounded by family while visiting in Manassas, Va.

She lived with her husband, Jerome, in Vienna, Va., for 20 years and they raised their family there. They then retired to Georgetown, and enjoyed 33 years on Henry Road, before moving to Martinsburg, W.Va., in 2014.

She was predeceased by several family members, Jerome Hoeschen, her husband for 50 years; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hoeschen, her son, Anthony Jerome Hoeschen; and her sister, Faydra Roma.

Joyce is survived by her remaining five daughters, Diana, Rose, Annette, Kathleen, and Christine; along with 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Joyce was an avid gardener, crossword and Jigsaw puzzler, birdwatcher, book lover, feeder of the hungry, and mother, who will be missed.

A favorite quote of hers was “Love wasn’t put in your heart to stay,

Love isn’t love ‘till you give it away”

Joyce kept fond memories of Maine in her heart after she moved away so the family asks in lieu of flowers to please consider donations to the following institutions that made a difference in her life: The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay; The Bath area food bank; or The Patten Free Library, both in Bath.
