Presumpscot Lodge No. 70, a masonic lodge based in Windham, will hold a charity dinner Tuesday, April 21, at Erik’s Church bar in Windham, to support its Windham High School Scholarship Fund.
Lodge member Gaige Hamilton said it is the first full-scale dinner the masons have held in support of the scholarship. His organization has historically made significant contributions to the Windham community in the form of charity work, scholarships, oil donations, and shoveling and sanding the driveways of elderly residents, he said.
The lodge will present the scholarship, a minimum of $1,000 per student, to two students, and will prioritize those who may not receive as much support as students who typically earn scholarships of this type. The minimum GPA threshold for the scholarship, he said, was 2.7, and the scholarship will award students who actively work toward benefiting their community. One scholarship would go toward a trades degree, while another would go to a student pursuing an arts degree.
The masons have sold about 100 tickets, Hamilton said, but are expecting up to 120 attendees. He said 120 would be the upper limit in terms of guests, as that is the capacity of the venue, Erik’s Church, a bar in North Windham. Tickets are still available, and cost $65 per person. Those interested in attending should reach out to the Presumpscot Lodge No. 70 on Facebook.
The event will include several entertainers, including music from the band 43 Degrees North, as well as comedians Nick Gordon and Mark Turcotte. In addition, the event will feature a silent auction, which will include memorabilia from sports legends such as Hank Aaron, Ted Williams and Phil Mickelson.
The menu will include hors d’oeuvres, antipasto skewers, chicken marsala, Bolognese, and desserts such as cookies and pastries. Hamilton said the bar will be open, but will not be included in the cost of the ticket.
Hamilton also listed several sponsors of the event, including China Village, Waxing Bakery, Red City Ale House, and Maria’s Restaurant.
The charity dinner will take place on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and lasting, said Hamilton, “till they shut us down.”
