I had the good fortune to meet Troy Jackson a few months ago — he spoke at a friend’s house about his run for governor and the changes needed to better support the people of Maine.
I already knew from my friend, the host, who worked for Troy in the state Senate, that he’s experienced, knowledgeable and a genuinely good person. I asked him about his logging experience and learned about the dangers of being asked to work at a rapid clip with enormous machinery. About bosses threatening to replace Mainers with Canadian workers who don’t need healthcare and other benefits (because their government provides those). Of Troy Jackson’s thoughts about how to protect our environment into the future, while also protecting the jobs and the well-being of people depending on that environment for their work.
I came away excited that this deeply experienced, decent person could be our next governor.
