Although monthly “art walks” are relatively new in cities and towns across Maine, a pair of photos from 1956 and 1966 show a sidewalk art festival and outdoor exhibit that took place in downtown Portland.

The event was in cooperation with Maine’s Millionth Visitor celebration. It was the first time the museum presented an outdoor exhibit.
