It has been said that Maine is the oldest state in the nation when it comes to the age of its residents, but did you know that the median age of York County’s 220,113 residents is 45.5 years old, slightly less than the statewide 45.8 years figure? And nationally, the median age is 39.3 years, according to the U.S. Census.

Perhaps the best way to think it all that is this way: Yes, Maine is the eldest state when it comes to the age of its residents, but really folks, 45.3 years old is barely middle-aged, so there’s lots of life left in us.

And how is that quality of life? What is York County’s median household income and its per capita income was in the 2025 calendar year? How about the poverty rate, and the unemployment rate?

Do you know which York County commissioner represents the municipality you live in and how to get in touch?

You can find the answers to these questions and more, like the role of each county government department, by having a look at the 2025 York County Government Annual Report.

The report, published May 5, two months earlier than the prior year’s version, represents the 2025 calendar year. It includes messages from commission Chair Richard Dutremble and York County Manager Greg Zinser, information about York County Government departments, and more.

The report includes the current fiscal year budget and the proposed upcoming budget, and residents should know a $407,000 reduction has been made in the latter since the publication of the report, and there may be other changes prior to the budget being finalized.

We hope you enjoy reading about what is happening with York County Government and the role the county government plays in residents’ lives.
