Erin Flett is a textile designer and artist who grew up in Colorado and moved to Maine after college. She’s called Gorham home for more than 20 years.
Five years ago, Flett opened a studio and retail shop on Main Street in Gorman where she designs, prints and sews a collection of bags, pillows and home goods.
Flett also recently launched The Yellow Field, a wedding and event space on her 10-acre farm. The venue’s lodging partner is the historic PineCrest Inn, located a mile from the farm.
Where do you like to eat?
One of my favorite places to eat in Gorham is Sebago Brewing Company. My husband and I end up there almost every week for date night because it feels a little like “Cheers,” where everyone knows your name. The food is consistently great, the wood-fired pizzas are a favorite and I love that you can choose between two very different locations, including the one overlooking Shaw Cherry Hill Farm, while enjoying locally brewed beer.
Where do you get a drink?
Sullivan House Bakery has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Gorham. The coffee is excellent and the baked goods and lunches are incredible, but what I love most is the warm atmosphere. It is the perfect place to sit, catch up with friends, or work for a bit. Their growing retail section and homemade take-and-bake meals are such a great addition to town, and they’re my go-to for catering studio lunches and treats for our team.
Where do you go to connect with nature?
I’m obsessed with Gorham’s trail system. With more than 50 miles of meticulously maintained multi-use trails, it’s become a destination for hikers, walkers, runners and mountain bikers from all over New England. Whether you’re looking for an easy family walk or a technical ride through towering pines, giant ferns, wooden bridges and peaceful streams, there’s truly something for everyone.
Where do you shop local?
Olde School Fiber & Craft is such a beautiful addition to Main Street. I’m not a knitter, but I love this sweet shop. The branding, window typography and eclectic antique merchandising are perfection. Every detail is thoughtfully curated, making it a special destination and elevating our little shopping village here in Gorham.
What’s one more thing you can’t miss in Gorham?
The Gorham Farmers Market (held at the Gorham Municipal Center parking lot at 65 South St.) is one of my favorite Saturday morning traditions. With more than 30 local farmers, makers and food vendors gathered every week, it’s the perfect place to shop local, catch up with neighbors and experience the incredible talent and agriculture that make Gorham so special.
