Westbrook comes alive in the summer, with a trove of concerts and events each week. If you’re looking for something to do, here are a few events to check out:
STAY ACTIVE
Discover Downtown Westbrook is hosting the Dusk to Dark: Paddle the Presumpscot summer event series in partnership with the Friends of the Presumpscot River. On July 25, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28, gather at Lincoln Street Boat Launch (58 Lincoln St.) from a guided canoe event. The sessions take place from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., including 1.5 hours of guided time on the river.
If you want to paddle and also eat hotdogs and burgers, show up to the free community paddle and grill events. The next will be on Aug. 12 at Riverbank Park. No registration is needed. Portland Paddle will provide kayaks, paddleboard and basic instruction, and Friends of the Presumpscot River will provide free drinks, hotdogs and burgers.
LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC
There’s no shortage of live entertainment in Westbrook this summer either. On Tuesday nights — from 6 to 8 p.m. — bring a blanket or a lawn chair for Westbrook’s free Riverbank Park Community Concert Series at 677 Main St. You can grab food from downtown restaurants or a cash barbecue fundraiser presented by Stephen W. Manchester Post No. 62 and Westbrook Lions Club. The concert schedule can be found online.
If one concert a week isn’t enough, head to Vallée Square for free outdoor concerts on Thursday nights. Behind Westbrook’s river walk, you’ll have a view of the waterfalls, and there is a bar to purchase beverages. The concerts start at 7 p.m., and the band lineup is available on Discover Downtown Westbrook’s website.
But if two concerts a week still doesn’t satisfy you, Maine based musicians perform at Westbrook common on a few Saturdays through Aug. 29. The 207 Music Series at Westbrook Common takes place from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring musicians Curse of Kona on July 25, The Dooryarders on Aug. 1, Sigrid Sibley on Aug. 15, and Rob Babson & Friends on Aug. 29. There will be a local vendor market with each concert from 4 to 7 p.m.
