The Friends of the Walker Memorial Library have launched their annual Book-Basket Raffle.
Come to the library’s lobby to view the two dozen baskets filled with goodies. Dozens of titles are bundled in colorful baskets that have very gently used books packaged with hand lotion, CDs, knitting needles, tea, soap, golf balls, bookmarks, candles, games, or catnip-all to enhance your reading experience.
Each basket is themed: cooking, knitting, golfing, mysteries, drawing, lighthouses, Christmas or cats. Twenty-six baskets are available for viewing and bidding by raffle ticket. Tickets cost 50 cents each or three for $1.
Bids are being collected from now until Westbrook Together Days. The drawing will be held during the afternoon on June 7.
“The Friends hope to raise enough funds to top last year’s total. All funds raised are used to support a student scholarship,” said Sondra Taylor, president of the Friends of Walker Memorial Library.
The library collects books throughout the year with donations going directly into the library’s collection when appropriate. The remainder of the books go to the library’s bookstore, which is open whenever the library is. Come and browse for outstanding bargains. The library has videos, paperbacks, audio books and hard covered books.
The library’s annual book sale will be held in the fall. For details about this event and the annual book sale, visit www.walker.lib.me.us.
