The picture on the left shows a 1950s view of the south side of Main Street looking towards Brackett Street. Pictured in the photo are Parkers Dress Shop, which was located at 842 Main St.; Lane’s Shoe Store, which was located at 844 Main St. and 846 Main St., which had Joe’s Sanitary Market on the first floor and Roland’s Beauty Shop on the second floor. The Westbrook Congregational Church is the building to the right on the corner of Brackett Street.
These buildings were purchased by Main Street Associates and the buildings housing Parker’s and Lane’s were demolished to make way for a new modern building to house the offices of several physicians.
Parker’s Dress Shop moved across the street to 843 Main St. Lane’s Shoe Store went out of business. Joe’s Sanitary Market closed and Roland’s Beauty Shop moved to 215 Brown St. The building at 846 Main St. was converted to office space and the new medical building was connected to it.
