Church pitches in for new piano

The Prides Corner Congregational Church has a new RX-2 Kawai Classic grand piano.

“Keeping in mind church dimensions, the search committee chose the Kawai for its craftsmanship, excellent touch and superb tone,” said Elaine Spiller, chairwoman of the search committee.

The piano cost $15,500. Donations given in memory of deceased friends and relatives, along with a fundraising campaign, enabled the church to acquire the piano. Church members and friends purchased piano keys and donations were matched by one fund donor.

“At the piano dedication, the search committee thanked all contributors for their foresight, dedication and music appreciation,” Spiller said.

Rabies clinic Saturday

Westbrook will host its annual rabies shots and licensing clinic on Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Dunn Street American Legion Hall.

The cost per vaccine is $8. Those who take their pets must have dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier. The clinic is sponsored by Stoneledge Animal Hospital and the Dehler Animal Clinic.

State law requires cats to receive rabies vaccine annually, and dogs every three years.

Needed are proof of current rabies vaccine and spay or neuter certificate, if applicable. The licensing cost is $6 for neutered dogs or $10 for un-neutered dogs.

After Feb. 1, a late fee of $15 will be charged and on April 1 a $25 warrant fee becomes effective.
