Frenette on dean’s list

Audrey L. Frenette of Buxton has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.

Frenette is a member of the class of 2012.

Leavitt year’s top volunteer

Patsy Thompson Leavitt of Buxton has been chosen Volunteer of the Year by the Portland chapter of Altrusa International.

An assistant professor of nursing at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Leavitt started a free health care clinic for people without health insurance that has served nearly 1,000 patients since 2004.

The Leavitt’s Mill Health Center, originally located on Narragansett Trail in Buxton, recently moved to larger quarters in Bar Mills in order to expand its services and reach more people.

Altrusa International operates worldwide as a community-based organization whose volunteers raise money for local charities, help at battered women’s shelters, care for runaway teens, build houses for Habitat for Humanity, fights AIDS and encourage literacy.

Seniors appreciation night

School Administrative District 6 is hosting its 16th annual Senior Citizens Night and Dinner 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at Bonny Eagle High School.

Seniors from Buxton, Frye Island, Hollis, Limington and Standish who wish to attend should RSVP by Friday, May 15, to Julia Dearborn in the SAD 6 superintendent’s office at 929-3831 or 642-2480.

Greenhouse dinner, auction success

The “Gold for the Greenhouse” dinner and auction held recently at Bonny Eagle Middle School was a success. The Bonny Eagle Middle School jazz band and improv group entertained.

Greenhouse tours were conducted and enough money was raised to almost cover all remaining construction costs of the greenhouse.

The event also helped raise food security awareness in the community, and profiled the school and the farm as progressive community leaders.
