A proposal to consolidate voting districts in Gorham will be heard by the town council at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.

The public will have opportunity to speak about the changes.

Christina Silberman, town clerk, said Tuesday that districts 1 and 3 would be combined into a new district and would vote at the Gorham Middle School under the new plan. The District 2 poll would shift from the Masonic Building on Cressey Road to the municipal center, where the Central District votes.

Silberman cited parking and traffic problems as reasons for the proposed changes, along with a new use for the former Little Falls School on Acorn Street.

District 1 has voted at the former Little Falls School, which began a new life in September under the aegis of the Sebago Alliance, a collaborative effort of area school districts for alternative education. Silberman said no other public handicapped accessible site is available in Little Falls.

If Gorham builds a new elementary school, she has asked the school department to keep in mind the possibility of it as a polling place.
