Mike was born in Bath on October 2, 1951, the son of Carroll Burton and Eleanor Mae Garland Wing. Michael graduated from Morse High in 1969 and received his BA in Philosophy from Gordon College, Wenham, MA.
On April 25, 1981, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bath, he married the love of his life Deborah Bartley of Greenville, ME, whom he had met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. He quickly and willingly fit into her Canadian French heritage, especially the Christmas tradition of “tourtierre.”
Never one to sit idle and always looking for new challenges, he held a variety of work experiences. During his lifetime, he was employed by the Bath Police Department, Cianbro, Dragon Cement, USM, the Elmurst Center, Vicarage by the Sea, Brackett Funeral Home, and Hawthorne House.
At the age of 50, Michael decided to change the course of his future and began to experience other interests such as enrolling in sign language courses and business classes at USM. He also volunteered at CHANS Hospice in Brunswick, was a member of the Board of Directors for the Tri County Literacy in Bath, and received a commendation for donating over 150 platelets for the Northern New England American Red Cross. His interest in Hospice evolved after he witnessed the care his mother received and he wanted to give that to others. In April 2016, he received the CHANS Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award.
Michael is survived by Deborah his wife of 36 years; 6 siblings – Linda Landrum from Texas, Richard Wing and his wife Lani, of Maine, Sue (Wing) Hallowell and Dale of NH; Ruth (Wing) Duff and Allen of TN, Andre Wing and Vanice of FL, and Anna (Wing) Avirett and Jeff of Florida – his extended family by marriage – Beverly (Bartley) and Frank Doughman from Indiana, Dolly Bartley and Dan Littlefield from Maine, Brenda (Bartley) and Douglas Reiter from Maryland, and numerous nieces and nephews – Angela, Scott, Nathan, Patrick, Hilary, Richard, Heather L, Karen, Heather W, Tom, Peter, Rachel, Jacob and several grand nieces and nephews.
