
Kennebunk football edges Falmouth in B South semifinal
Both Class B South football semifinals were decided in the final minute. While Westbrook was rallying to beat Marshwood, 15-12, the other game pitted 2023 state champion Kennebunk against 2024 winner Falmouth. Kennebunk led at home early, 14-0, then Navigators tied it, but Kennebunk regained a 21-14 lead with 5:52 to play. Falmouth drove for a touchdown with 29.7 seconds to play, only to miss the extra point, giving the Rams a 21-20 victory.

Maranacook basketball wins regional title at buzzer
Top-seeded Spruce Mountain entered the Class B South final with 18 straight wins — 13 in a row by double digits. They led most of the game, but Grady Hreben’s late 3-point barrage got Maranacook back in it, then Ethan Chilton — a defensive player who rarely scores — hit a runner off the glass at the buzzer to send the Black Bears to the state final with a 49-47 victory.

Marshwood edges York in Class B lacrosse final
Coming off a 3-11 season, Marshwood completed its Cinderella season in the Class B final. The Hawks erased a two-goal deficit with 6:33 to go, then got the go-ahead score from Hayden Demeroto with 39 seconds left. Nate Kelley turned away a final York attack, and the Hawks were champs for the first time with an 8-7 victory.

No. 8 Scarborough basketball takes down top seed
Scarborough was the No. 8 seed going up against two-time defending state champion Windham in the Class A South quarterfinals, but the Red Storm weren’t fazed. They started hot, taking a first-half lead and shooting 89% in the third quarter. When Windham rallied late, so did Scarborough, scoring the tying basket with 44 seconds left before completing the stunner in overtime, 66-62.
