Gagne and son on duty
Chief Master Sgt. Darryl P. Gagne of the Air Force and his son, Airman 1st Class Nicholas Gagne, served together at a recruiting display this year at the Daytona 500 in Florida.
“All the visitors got a kick out of the fact that he was my son and both of us were in uniform,” Darryl Gagne said.
The assignment came while the younger Gagne was visiting his father on leave. He was assigned to recruiter assistance duty and worked in his father’s squadron for 10 days. Darryl Gagne is the superintendent for the 336 Recruiting Squadron at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia.
Nicholas Gagne recently finished a 15-month tour at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey. He and his wife recently left the country for a three-year assignment at Royal Air Force Base in Mildenhall, United Kingdom, where his dad once served in the 1990s.
The younger Gagne graduated Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Ala., in 2003 and joined the Air Force in 2004. He married the former Rayna Blethen of Montgomery, Ala., in May 2005.
Darryl Gagne joined the Air Force in 1980, the year he graduated from Westbrook High School. He is the son of Marie and Lucien Gagne, formerly of Emery Street, now in Davenport, Fla.
Pearlman to entertain at seniors luncheon
Violinist Ed Pearlman will entertain when the Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at noon on Monday, April 17, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.
The entertainment will follow a baked stuffed chicken breast luncheon.

Post 197 elections
Westbrook Memorial Post 197 on Conant Street will have its annual election of officers on Tuesday, April 18. Polls will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
Dave Martin, post commander, said membership will meet at 6 p.m. after the election.
CAV helping African widows, orphans
Rev. Mutima Peter of Westbrook and Central Africa Vision, the organization he founded, had their annual banquet on April 6 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.
They support reconciliation of warring factions in Central African nations and relief for widows and orphans from genocide.
The banquet featured authentic African music and a dance by Jean Paul Samputu of Rwanda, who lost family members in genocide in 1994.

Germain achieves high honors
Paul Germain of the Army National Guard graduated advanced training at Fort Lee,Va., on April 7 with high honors.
Germain is the son of Frank and Donna Germain.
A graduate of Westbrook High School in 2004, Germain enlisted as a junior. He graduated boot camp on Dec. 16, 2005, in Fort Jackson, S.C., where he excelled in every area of basic training.
In advanced training, he was “above and beyond” in all aspects. “We’re very proud of you,” his parents and brother Randy said in a congratulatory message.
Young excels at URI
Christine A. Young has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I., for the fall semester.
Young is a freshman.
Athearn on dean’s list
Kathleen C. Athearn of 32 Mitchell St., has been named to the dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., for the fall semester.
Athearn is majoring in biochemistry and biophysics.
Gallant achieves honors
Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass., has announced that Brent S. Gallant was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester.
Gallant is majoring in business administration.
Prides Corner rummage sale
A rummage sale will be held 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 22, at Prides Corner Congregational Church, 235 Pride St.
The sale includes a large variety of white elephant items.
Parliamentarian Law month
April is Parliamentarian Law Month and The Maine Association of Maine in an effort to boost interest and membership will present a free lecture “So You’re Going to a Meeting…” at Scarborough Public Library, Gorham Road, Scarborough.
This will be free and open to the public 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 22.

Westbrook Kiwanis campaign underway
Kiwanis International has launched of a new public service announcement campaign titled “One Can Make a Difference.”
Designed to create a stronger awareness of Kiwanis clubs and their mission, the announcements creatively demonstrate the future potential of children around the world. “Any community need can become a Kiwanis service project,” said John Bernier, president of the Westbrook Kiwanis. “We are hopeful this new campaign will raise awareness of our efforts and encourage others to become members of the Kiwanis Club of Westbrook.”
Bernier said that every day Kiwanians around the globe make a difference by revitalizing neighborhoods, organizing youth sports programs, planting trees, erecting playgrounds, and performing countless other projects to help children and communities. In Westbrook, Kiwanis has been responsible for many different projects, including Mission Possible Teen Center, the Westbrook Kiwanis Relays, Westbrook Food Bank, clothing for the needy, Key Club, Meals on Wheels, Terrific Kids and numerous other successful projects aimed at kids and seniors in Westbrook.

Cutline (Gagne -14) – Airman 1st Class Nicholas Gagne recently visited his dad, Chief Master Sgt. Darryl P. Gagne, in Georgia. The younger Gagne is now serving with the U.S. Air Force in England.
